This engine is out of a 1950 Willys Jeepster and is one of the first of many benefits that has resulted from the WillysTech mailing list. Neal Servais had advertised there that he was parting out the Jeepster and I inquired about the engine. It was running when I purchased it from him. As widespread that people are on the WT list I was concerned about location. If it was the engine I wanted how I would go about getting it if it was a long way away? Turns out Neal was within 45 miles of me (at that time) so I drove up, listened to it run, agreed to buy it. Neal pulled it on the spot and loaded it on my truck (OK, it's a Datsun not a Willys, but with 317,000+ miles on it I can't complain too much!) It's currently sitting on an engine stand awaiting a rebuild - don't know yet if it has ever been rebuilt. The odomoter on the Jeepster read ~32,000 so I'm hoping it has not been rebuilt. I was glad to find this engine. The original in the truck was traded in for a rebuilt short block in the mid-1980's. The 'new' block has the extra flange that partially covers the hole for the timing marks on the flywheel. The Jeepster motor does not have this flange. January 31, 2001: Began the disassembly process today and discovered that this engine has been rebuilt at least once as it looks like the pistons are 0.040" oversize. | ||
