The original pedal shaft had been replaced sometime before my dad purchased the truck in 1957. The pedals and replacement shaft were well worn out for as long as I can remember - there was several inches of side-to-side play in the pedals. When I rebuilt my brother's 1949 pickup in the late 1980's I had two new sets of shafts and mounting plates made at a Conway, Arkansas machine shop owned by Jerry Spradlin. Replacement pedals were purchased from Carl Walck. These pedals were late models and were fitted with bushings. New pivot balls, cross-shaft, and pedal bushings had been purchased previously from Florida 4-Wheel Drive and Obsolete Jeep Parts. Hopefully, the slight misalignment vertically of the shaft won't cause problems later. | ||
